On February 5th, I went to the Meow Wolf lecture on campus. First, one of Meow Wolf’s Artist Liaisons talked to us about the Meow Wolf experience, both what it’s like for the audience and what the climate is like for the employees. It was nice to hear that they get full time pay and benefits, even in off seasons. She was very enthusiastic about Meow Wolf’s culture, and I really liked how she explained interactivity: “If there’s a button there, it should do something.” Basically, she was saying everything that the audiences can touch and experience should do something. That idea gave me something to think about with my own projects! Another good quote from her that I think applies really well for creativity is: “Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.”

Next, a women from the fabrication team explained the Meow Wolf process, and the development of their fabrication facilities. One thing I really liked about her was how real she was about the whole process, Meow Wolf can seem like this really romantic performance, and she just brought it down to earth and gave us a sense of what the fabrication facilities and process looks like. She had been working for Meow Wolf for a while, and it was interesting to hear her talk about what the transformation has been like as Meow Wolf gets bigger and bigger.
